Gold zakat calculator
Enter the weight of gold you own for each karat.
Nisab is 85 g of 24K gold according to the common view. Consult a trusted scholar about your situation.
How zakat on gold is calculated
Zakat is due on gold you have owned for one lunar year if it reaches the nisab, commonly set at 85 grams of 24K gold. The amount is 2.5% of the gold’s value.
Lower karats contain less pure gold, so the calculator converts 22K, 21K and 18K to their 24K equivalent before checking the nisab.
Scholars differ on details such as jewellery worn regularly. This tool is a guide only.

Today’s nisab value
The nisab of 85 g of 24K gold is worth about AED 42,734 at today’s 24K rate. If the gold you own reaches this amount in pure gold terms and you have held it for a full lunar year, zakat of 2.5% is due on its value.
Worked example
You own 60 g of 22K and 40 g of 21K jewellery. In pure gold terms that is about 55 g + 35 g = 90 g of 24K, which is above the nisab. Zakat is 2.5% of the total value of the 100 g at today’s rates. Enter your own weights in the calculator above.
Which gold counts?
- Bars, coins and gold held as savings count towards zakat according to all major views.
- Scholars differ on jewellery worn regularly. Some schools include it and others exempt it. Follow the view of a scholar you trust.
- Use the value on the day your zakat is due. Many people use the selling or buying rate; this calculator uses today’s estimated retail rate, which you can compare with a shop’s buying price.
