22K gold is 91.6% pure, with the rest made of metals such as copper and silver that make it harder. It is the most popular karat for jewellery among Indian and Pakistani buyers in Dubai, and is often marked 916.

22K gold is the traditional jewellery gold of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, and the UAE has large communities from all of them. It has a rich yellow colour and enough strength for bangles, necklaces and chains. Buying 22K gold in Dubai
- Look for the 916 hallmark, which shows 91.6% purity.
- Making charges on 22K jewellery range widely, from low charges on simple chains to much higher charges on detailed or branded designs. Ask for the charge per gram.
- Shops often run making-charge offers during Diwali, Akshaya Tritiya and the Dubai Shopping Festival.
- Keep the itemised invoice. It shows the weight and karat you will need when you exchange or sell.
How to check 22K purity
Gold sold in the UAE is marked with its purity in parts per thousand. For 22K, look for 916. You can ask the shop to test the piece, and reputable jewellers will show you the hallmark under a loupe. The invoice should state the karat too.
